The official fireworks location for 2026 has not yet been announced by Macy's. In 2025, the show launched from the Brooklyn Bridge and barges along the lower East River. In 2024, the show was on the Hudson River. For 2026, the 50th anniversary of the show and America's 250th birthday, we will update all listings with confirmed location details as soon as Macy's announces. The fireworks reach up to 1,000 feet in the air and feature tens of thousands of shells in dozens of colors.

The Macy's fireworks show typically begins at approximately 9:25 PM and lasts about 25 minutes. We recommend being at your event location by 8:30 PM at the latest to secure a good viewing spot and settle in before the show.

The 2026 show is expected to be the largest in the event's 50-year history. For context, the 2025 show used approximately 80,000 shells, a significant increase from the 60,000 shells used in 2023 and 2024. The 50th anniversary of Macy's fireworks combined with America's 250th birthday virtually guarantees an even more spectacular production. The NBC broadcast airs live from 8:00 to 10:00 PM on NBC, Peacock, and Telemundo, with an encore at 10:00 PM.

Events along the Hudson River, the East River, in the Seaport District, Lower East Side, and Brooklyn waterfront have historically offered the most direct views. River cruises position near the launch barges for excellent sightlines regardless of location. All events in this category offer live views of the Macy's fireworks show. Specific venue recommendations will be updated once the 2026 fireworks location is officially confirmed.

In years when the fireworks launch from the lower East River or Brooklyn Bridge area, venues in Midtown and Times Square typically have limited or distant views. The 2026 location has not yet been confirmed. If seeing the fireworks live is your top priority, a downtown venue, Brooklyn location, or river cruise will give you the most flexibility regardless of where the show launches.

Free public viewing areas along the FDR Drive and Brooklyn Bridge Park filled up hours in advance, had no amenities, and were extremely crowded. In 2025, the City distributed 100,000 free viewing tickets via lottery for Brooklyn Bridge Park, and even those required advance registration. With 2026's expected record crowds for the 250th anniversary, free viewing will be even more competitive. Ticketed events offer guaranteed entry, food and drinks, space to move around, restrooms, and a much more comfortable experience overall.

The Macy's fireworks show proceeds in most weather conditions, including light rain and clouds. Low clouds may partially obscure higher-altitude effects, but the show is designed to be visible at multiple heights. Only severe weather like thunderstorms would cause cancellation.
